Here's one from the latest book I am illustrating. It's a Young Adult Chapter Book about an invisible talking dog that only certain people can see. It's written by Mark Grant.

Scurvy
It's time for me to step it up and start posting some stuff here on the ole art blog. I'll see if I can get it going on a somewhat regular basis. Here's another crusty sailor dude to start it off...

Square Wave
Messing around in Cubase, I ended up putting together a new song. I call it Square Wave. Here's the link for those of you that would like to listen: Square Wave. It's a little on the weird side, but I guess that happens from time to time.

Ant-Man (Sort of)
This is a sketch I did while sitting and drawing with my stepson again. It's nice that he likes to sit and draw and paint because it gives me time to stop and just doodle. I don't get much time for that anymore. I liked it, so I did a quick coloring job in Photoshop. It kind of looked like Ant-Man, so I used the blue and red colors. Or giant man. Which ever direction you want to go...

Alien Spacecraft
This is another Blender post. I was listening to a bunch of podcasts from fxguide, which is great if you are into that sort of thing, and it really made me want to try and build some sort of thing I could rig up. I had just finished drawing a picture for this years Moore calendar. Here it is:
This year, my brother and I did 6 backgrounds and then sent them to each other and we have to put stuff over the other persons backgrounds. I did the little alien guys. So I thought, I can just model one of these little spacecraft and then make the alien, and rig them up as a test. I got the ship done as you can see. My next step will be creating the alien to go inside. Then I will work on texturing everything. I kind of like the plain white models you see of things though. I guess I should finish the calendar and all the other paid gigs before I continue with this though anyway, heh.

Dino
My stepson and I were painting yesterday just for fun, and here's one of them that came out. I liked it so I thought I would share. I don't get to just sit and paint for fun that much anymore, so it is always nice when I get the chance. I like to think it's an amphibian type of dino...

Blender
I have been messing around in Blender for the past few months and have really grown to love it. If you don't know what Blender is, go check it out. It's an "open source 3D content creation suite" that is really impressive considering it's free!
I realize it's been forever since anyone has posted to the blog here, so I thought I would share one of my latest creations. It's some old archival footage of a tiny little island in the South Pacific. Click here to see it!

Caroline
Here's some more music. This is an old one I did along time ago. Allen was coming up with lyrics and he was calling it Caroline, so that's what I am calling it. Maybe one day we can sit down and work all these songs out and refine them. This one is still pretty rough as you can tell, but I still thought I would share. Just for fun.
An interesting side note on this song is that I wrote the music to this one with my buddy Drew Hughes back when we were in college, and at the time EMO music (not sure if you remember that genre) was at it's height. We had gone to see a house show in Auburn where this band of youngsters was playing and all their songs sounded the same and all EMOy and stuff. So we left making fun of the music. Then the next day we wrote this to show how easy it was to make EMO music poking fun at the genre, and now I like this song. Heh. Funny how things change in life...

Hair Growth

I have no real idea why I made this other than I wanted to do a super fast animation for fun. Basically the first thing that popped in my head I would animate and this is what came out. Weird I know. It's a bald guy growing hair if you can't tell...thank you for your time!

Moore Calendar 2012
Here's a sample of the 2012 Moore Calendar. We did a vs. theme this year so Allen and I each drew a character for each month and then halfed the backgrounds. These are just two of the months...it's fighting squirrels and a pillow fight.

Mustaches

Added a new strip to theothersideofnature.com. I was looking at the dates when I uploaded it yesterday, and we haven't added anything to it since January. Pretty sad. Hopefully we can get back to putting more up on a regular basis. It's hard with all the stuff going on this year...thanks to those who still check it out!
Since no new stuff to post here, here are some logos I did a few years back when I worked at the ad agency. It was for an energy drink for motorbikers. I don't think it ever made it off the ground, so I think it's safe to post these. They were fun to work on...they didn't really go for the Torq Juice logo. Oh, well. You can click on the image for a larger view!

Morgue Scene
Still pretty busy, so I haven't had much time to do anything just for the blog. Here's a little something for that Sci Fi book I was working on. It's called Night of a Thousand Days by Brad Koehler. Should be out soon so look for it if you're a science fiction fan. This is a morgue scene by the way...

Some Songs
This is a musical post which I haven't done in a long time. I wish I had time to work on some more music, but that just isn't happening at all soon. So here are two links to some old songs I did. They don't have any vocals in them, my bro wrote lyrics to the rap song and I tried recording them, but I am just not a rapper. I kind of always wanted to post some background music, which I have a lot of, and see if anyone would find it and put their own lyrics to it. Like see what other people can do with it. So if you stumble upon this rap background music, or the other techno-ish background music, feel free to take it and run with it. I would like to hear what comes of it. That would be cool...

This is one of the illustrations from the latest kids book I am working on for the Tampa Bay Rays. It's the first one I get to write and illustrate, so it's pretty exciting. I am doing the whole thing in illustrator which is fun, but reeally time consuming at the same time. It can really make to start hallucinating after awhile. Hopefully it is all worth it though...

Doodles
It just so happens, I filled up one of my sketch books the other day. It's always kind of a sad moment, but there's also a sort of sense of accomplishment when you've got no more blank pages left. You get to go back and look through it all and find the little things you forgot you even drew stuck in between a lot of the bigger stuff that you might have been working on that got finalized. I went back and scanned some of the little doodles that I remember enjoy doing. These aren't even the half of them, though, I didn't want to be scanning forever. These little doodles are usually the ones that are the most fun to do, for me at least, because there's no pressure what so ever, and you basically just start drawing lines and see what comes out. Even if it comes out lame or the concept ends up way out there, it's just you on the page. I could do that all day...

Sundress
I have no idea why, but I was sketching in my notebook and started thinking about fashion illustrations and how all the characters seem to be very elongated. Even though fashion is one of the last thing I would ever be interested in, the illustrations can be interesting. I drew a sundress because sundresses are hot. Especially with a nice pair of flip flops. Not those super thick flip flops, those things are annoying. Any shoe that's sole purpose is to make a woman look taller is extremely unattractive in my opinion. Wow, one drawing related to fashion and I've got myself talking about it. I'm so lame.

The Other Side of Nature
So we decided to share the nature strips while we do them until waiting to release them all at once in a book. You can check them out here: theothersideofnature.com They are all wordless because they are animals and we didn't want to do the typical talking animals kind of strip. Also, I like to think they are more universal when you don't have to read text. Anyway, they are fun to work on especially with my brother. Take look and hopefully enjoy!

B-Baller

I have been working on laying out a 192 page book full of text for work, and I got the urge to animate something. He's a baller. He wishes he was a little bit taller and also wishes he had a girl who looked good so that he could call her...
